Math Initiatives are located in major urban centers across the U.S., and are partnerships between funders, MIND Research and local school districts to elevate children’s math achievement in the area’s lowest-performing schools, using MIND’s ST Math® visual software. Wells Fargo has supported MIND’s mission since 2003 and its recent $100,000 grant will fund schools in the 2011-2012 school year. Wells Fargo joins Cisco, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the University of Phoenix in providing funding without geographic restrictions. Examples of regions benefiting from these generous donors are Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Houston, New York City and Orlando (FL). Schools participating in MIND’s math education program receive teacher professional development; student and teacher access to the ST Math® software; ongoing technical and curriculum support from MIND; and reporting and analysis capabilities to promote effective teaching. “At Wells Fargo, we believe that investing in children’s education is crucial to building a stronger tomorrow for everyone,” said Tim Hanlon, Wells Fargo’s head of philanthropy. “We salute the MIND Research Institute for bringing innovative math programs to underserved children across the nation. With improved creative problem solving and math skills, more children will be prepared for better careers in the high tech global workplace of the future.” Through philanthropy, over 147,000 students, 6,000 teachers and 443 schools receive MIND’s award-winning math supplemental software. Visionary partners like Wells Fargo are crucial to further the mission of helping every child, no matter their ethnic or socioeconomic background, find success in school and in life. “Wells Fargo’s decision to significantly increase their generous annual support of MIND Research Institute this year will strengthen our partnership, and demonstrates their commitment to our important mission to help children succeed in math,” said Glenn Maddalon, Vice President of Development, MIND Research Institute.
