The [K-12 Game-a-thon](https://www.mindresearch.org/gameathon/) challenges students to design, build and share a game that features creative and unusual solution­­s to mathematical problems.

Teams of one or more students, along with a teacher or parent in a coordinator role, invented card games, board games, apps, and outdoor games that addressed one or more mathematical topics. Throughout the process, students developed critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration skills and more. The challenge is designed to help students engage in math outside of the traditional classroom environment, providing an avenue to promote [creative thinking](https://2024.mindresearch.org/blog/math-game-design-lesson-creativity) in mathematics.

This year we had 89 entries from 13 different states across the country. 

## Meet the Judges

MIND would like to thank our judges who volunteered their time to watch and evaluate the game designs that students submitted.

In addition, some MIND Research Institute colleagues participated as judges. As part of our [OpenMINDs initiative](https://www.mindresearch.org/life-at-mind), colleagues can spend some of their work time volunteering, including for Game-a-thon.
